We booked the ridiculously expensive $90 'Sunrise Elephant Back Safari' through the Elephant Company - located about 10 km from Victoria Falls on the privately owned Nakavango Estate. They picked us up from Victoria Falls Backpackers and it took about twenty minutes to get there.

I thought the use of the term 'safari' was a bit misleading and it was more of an 'elephant ride.' We saw some wildlife (birds, baboons, impala, hippos, and crocs) but they were pretty far away. We didn't get the 'up close' experience they advertised.

Anyway, we met our elephant and it's own personal groom, doubled up and got on. Of course, it was very cool riding these huge animals and for being so big they moved pretty fast when they wanted to.

After the ride we met their resident 1-year-old elephant who was found a few months ago orphaned. Adorable!

Then we settled down and watched an educational video about elephants and a video with highlights from our trip that they just filmed.

The morning ended with a traditional English breakfast of mincemeat, eggs, and toast. Why traditional English when we are in Zimbabwe - who knows? Another reminder of colonization...
