GLASGOW, SCOTLAND

Glasgow

Glasgow City Hall

We arrived at the Glasgow Airport about 8:00pm after a slight delay in Belfast de-icing the plane. We grabbed a taxi and went to the Quality Hotel Glasgow (99 Gordon Street, Phone: (44) 0141 2219680)- part of the Central Train Station complex. Since I was with my mom and cousin, I got outvoted and we stayed in a hotel instead of a hostel.

Bier Halle RepublicWe checked in and had the feeling we were stepping into the set of The Shining. The hotel was huge, empty, and creaking. We were planning to go to Stirling the next day so I went on internet to figure out the best way to get there. Turns out, it is cheaper to just rent a car for the day, so we decided to rent a car the next morning.

It was about 9:00pm and we went searching for a place to eat. We found the Bier Halle Republic down the street from the hotel at 9 Gordon Street. The bar is advertised to have the largest collection of beer and schnapps available in Scotland. Sounded good to us! We walked down the stairs and immediately smelled pizza - yummm! We ordered our drinks and were excited to get pizza. But since it was so late, they ran out of pizza dough so we settled for Caesar salads. It was smoky (being from California, I never get used to smoky bars) but the atmosphere was cool (a bit dark and they were playing Motown) and the food and drink were delicious!
