BELFAST MURALS - FALLS ROAD, IRELAND

Belfast Murals

Belfast's troubled history has seen many tragedies and atrocities which are illustrated in the murals painted on the sides of houses throughout Belfast. The murals today are a major tourist attraction. There are 4 main sections of murals from the hardest hit areas of Belfast. The three nationalist areas are 1) The Falls Road - the Republican backbone of west Belfast; 2) Ballymurphy / Whiterock - west Belfast’s Republican heart; and 3) Ardoyne - the Republican stronghold of north Belfast. The unionist area is The Shankill - the loyalist stronghold in west Belfast.

This claims that, although the name of the Police has been changed from RUC to PSNI, the Police really has still not changed and is closely associated with the UDA. The mural text refers to a British Agent and UDA leader called Brian Nelson and explains that his exploits, namely acquiring large consignments of weaponry, led to deaths of many Ardoyne people.
