INDIA

General Info

Map of India

In July 2006, I traveled to India (and Nepal) for several weeks. I was told by many that I was a crazy fool going to India during monsoon season. Well, I may be a crazy fool but not because of the monsoon. I only got stuck in one downpour/sewer trek in Jodhpur and it rained for a few nights in Udaipur but was nice during the day. It was HOT HOT HOT in Delhi, Agra, and Jaisalmer but nothing a cold beer couldn't fix!

How do you describe India? You can't. You have to experience it. Then, once you are back, you know you miss India when you:
- Start commuting to work on the roof of the train
- Wonder how come your taxi driver does not turn off the engine on red lights
- Stare at every white face you see but say nothing
- Start sucking aniseed so you can spit on the wall in the yard
- Carry cookies in your pocket in case you run into monkeys
- Put a 'Horn OK' bumper sticker on your car and blast horn every 3 seconds
- Re-wire the bathroom to leave all the cables exposed
- Start peeing in your sink
- Blow your nose onto the street
- Start calling people older than you Auntie and Uncle
- Put curry powder on your popcorn
- Re-wire all the lights in your house and insert a random selector
- Start washing your clothes in the local river
- Rearrange your bathroom so you can shower and use toilet at the same time
- Litter with reckless abandon
- Set the farmers cows free to roam the streets
- Open a market stall to sell used false teeth
- Wonder why all the dogs have 4 legs, 2 ears and a tail
- Drive your car at night with the headlamps turned off
- Look for monkeys and beggars when visiting a church
- Wonder why there are no bollywood posters plastered on the walls
