VALLE DE ANGELES, HONDURAS

Valle de Angeles

Valle de Angeles is a colonial town about 18.6 miles from Tegucigalpa.

Me and RosaIt is in a beautiful mountain valley (hence the name) at 1,310 meters. It's a nice town without many tourists during the week (though it gets crowded with tourists on Saturday and Sunday). It has cobblestone streets, red-tiled roofs, and a colonial church.

We payed our favorite taxi driver Nestor to take us to/from Valle de Angeles. The trip was $40 - which was high because there were 3 of us, and we used the minivan. It took us about 45 minutes to drive from Tegucigalpa to Valle de Angeles. The drive was nice through the mountains and past another village - Santa Lucia. We didn't hit any traffic (except for leaving Tegucigalpa).

Valle Angeles

When we arrived in Valle de Angeles, went directly to the Centro de Artesanias - an area with many craft stores and workshops. The shops carry crafts from all over Honduras including: paintings, wood-carved boxes and chests, wooden animals, pottery, jewelry, pewter, tapestries, native blouses and dresses, hammocks, Honduras t-shirts, and Honduran cigars and rum.

The town is particularly known for its wood crafts and there are a couple of wood workshops in the artist center. You can walk into the woodshops and see how the gorgeous chests and boxes are made.
