CHOBE SAFARI DRIVE (CONT.), BOTSWANA
Actually instead of Africa's official Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, hippo), I had my own Big 5 that I was dying to see: lion, leopard, elephant, zebra, and giraffe.
The first animals we came across during our drive were a group of 4 giraffes. It was so cute seeing them eating off the ground, spreading their front legs so they could.

Then we ran into a family of warthogs - ahh Pumba! Warthogs have got to be the most hideously adorable animals on the planet.
They have blonde porkchop sideburns, a mohawk mane of brown hair, huge fangs hanging out, and no neck. In fact, they have to kneel on their front knees to eat off of the ground because they have no neck. Then we saw another warthog run out of the bushes and almost run into the truck. He stopped dead in his tracks, surprised, and then ran to the right for 10 steps, looked at us, ran to the left 10 steps, looked at us again, then took off back into the bushes. Ha ha they are just adorable!
At one point during the drive, we slowly passed a young elephant bull on the side of the road. Well, we got too close to him and he became irritated - flapping his ears and yelling at us. Then our driver started irritating him more and revving up the engine and going back and forth. At this point the elephant was 4 feet from my side of the open-sided truck and I thought about how easy it would be for his tusk to ram into my thigh. The elephant was really loud now and getting closer when the driver finally moved on. Whew! Of course we knew that the driver knew what he was doing and knew that the elephant was 'mock' charging - but the sheer size of the animal still makes you nervous!
