OUR ROUTE, BELIZE
Below is the route we took during my first visit to Belize: DAY 1 -- Took 6:30am American flight from SFO to Belize City. Arrived at 3:30pm. Took taxi to Belize City bus station ($15 US). Took 5:00pm Novelos Executive Bus to San Ignacio ($6 US each). Took taxi from San Ignacio bus station to Aguada Hotel in Santa Elena ($2.50 US). DAY 2 -- Guide picked us up at hotel and drove 4x4 Trooper to Guatemala border. Guide drove 4x4 Trooper to Tikal National Park. Guide drove 4x4 Trooper to Flores Island. DAY 3 -- Guide drove 4x4 Trooper to Guatemala border. Guide drove 4x4 Trooper back to Aguada Hotel. Took taxi into San Ignacio ($2.50 US). Took taxi back to Aguada Hotel ($2.50 US). DAY 4 -- Guide picked us up at hotel and drove 4x4 Trooper to Barton Creek Cave. Guide dropped us up at hotel. DAY 5 -- Took 7:30am Novelos Executive bus to Belmopan ($3 US each). Took 8:30am Z-Line bus to Dangriga ($2.50 US each). Took taxi from Dangriga bus station to Dangriga airstrip ($2.50 US). Took 12:50pm Tropic Air flight to Placencia ($34 US each). Took taxi from Placencia airstrip to Placencia Village ($2.50 US each). DAY 6 -- Walked to Placencia dock. Guide took us to Monkey River Village in motor boat ($38 US each for tour). Walked back to hotel. DAY 7 -- Relax on the beach. DAY 8 -- Relax on the beach. DAY 9 -- Took 7:25am Tropic Air flight to Belize City Municipal ($53.50 US each). Took 8:40am Tropic Air flight to Caye Caulker ($24 US each). Walked to Tropical Paradise hotel. DAY 10 -- Walk to Caye Caulker water taxi pier. Took 8:30am water taxi to Ambergris Caye ($12.50 US each round-trip). Took 11:30am water taxi back to Caye Caulker. DAY 11 -- Took golfcart to Caye Culker airstrip ($2.50 US each). Took 1:30pm Maya Island Air flight to Belize City Int'l ($24 US each). Took 4:30pm American flight back to SFO. |
Belize Facts Territorial disputes between the UK and Guatemala delayed the independence of Belize (formerly British Honduras) until 1981. Guatemala refused to recognize the new nation until 1992. Tourism has become the mainstay of the economy. Belize is slightly smaller than Massachusetts. Guatemala and Mexico border Belize. Weather: tropical; very hot and humid; rainy season (May to November); dry season (February to May). Belize's natural resources include arable land potential, timber, fish, and hydropower. Belize is the only country in Central America without a coastline on the North Pacific Ocean. Belize's government is a parliamentary democracy. Belize's Independence Day is September 21, (1981). 33% of Belizeans live below the poverty line. |
